Where are you based?

Canvas Domain is a British company trading from within the United Kingdom

The photo painting service is just that, you give us a digital photograph from which you wish a portrait to be painted, and we will paint that portrait/image for you, if you wish a landscape, townscape rather than a portrait, that's no problem at all and is the same price quoted on our price pages.

The canvas prints service is fairly simple, the idea is to take your digital photograph and put it onto a box canvas. However you may want the image to be manipulated in some way prior to canvas production, whether this be into a collage, montage, colour splash pop art or woodcut, These services have additional charges, please see the canvas price page for details.

The easiest way to submit your images is just to click on the link to 'upload to us' at the top of any page and follow the instructions, easy
.

If you would prefer to send your image in hard copy to us please get in contact  first to let us know of your intentions. Any CD's sent to us or original photographs will be returned with your completed product, please note however, we can not be held responsible for any photos or cd's damaged in transit to and from the studio. Should you alternatively wish to scan your image and send us that, please scan the image at a minimum resolution of 200dpi.

Dots per inch (dpi) is the resolution of a file when printed to a certain size. The higher the dpi the better the quality of the final print out. Ideal dpi is 300 however images with a dpi less than 200 may be acceptable. When taking images on digital cameras, set it at the highest resolution, ie. a 2048 x 1536 will mean that the ideal print size would be 20" x 15". It is important to maintain the aspect ratio when enlarging on either side. If it is not possible to print to your exact size requirements, or that your image quality is not good enough, we will advise you.

Free Tutorial -How to check an image

Here are simple instructions on how to check if an image is suitable for canvas production and whether your photo is an original image.

1. Using your computer, right click on your photo/image file and select "Properties" from the list

2. At the top of the opened box click the "Summary" tab

3. You should see (near the bottom) an "Advanced" button, click that (if you see a "simple button" instead then you are already in advanced mode)

4. What you see here is all the information about your image, for example a typical camera image will tell you the date and time the photo was taken and the camera make and model used to take it.

5. Now the important bit -- the dpi figure, this figure determines how many dots per inch make up the photograph. The more dots per inch, the more an image can be enlarged. The perfect photo is at least 300dpi, which is ideal for canvas production. As a general rule of thumb anything over 200dpi is fine for your canvas production but anything less than 100 is normally not.

6. Using our 'upload to us' link at the top of each page eliminates the problems most email programs cause, whereby, the image is automatically resized to its smallest size, usually between 46 and 96dpi, this is to allow the image to be sent quickly and to give less stress to your internet service providers servers, unfortunately most of the data associated with your photograph is lost and the quality is greatly reduced and as a consquence, your photograph is no longer suitable for canvas producion, so please please use our upload link to avoid this problem.

If, however, you are confident that you have an original image under 8mb in size just sent it directly to us at
freephotoappraisal@canvasdomain.co.uk, for large images please contact us first.

What if there are marks on my image?

We will be more than happy to enhance your photo, remove any marks or blemishes as well as red eye reduction prior to creating your photo to canvas or photo to painting, we will also take out camera dates and add text should you wish it. There is no extra charge for this service. However any major amendment (for example complete background removal or replacement) will incur a nominal charge - either 8 or 11 pounds, just let us know what you would like done.

Are your paintings photoshop?

Yes, paintings are produced using adobe photoshop software

A  file will be made available to you as a 'Proof Image' of your order as part of your buying experience. You may request a full resolution copy of the completed image (available for download only), the cost of which is 50 pounds sterling. This cost excludes our digital painting service which is based on painting size less 20% and with a minimum cost of 50 pounds sterling. These costs are charged separately or alternatively to your canvas print order.

S
hould you wish only the completed image file, you may purchase that image from us at the prices quoted above. Should you return to us to have your image produced on canvas at a later date, that canvas will be charged at the current prices as defined on our price page and relative to its product origin ie. a photo to canvas or photo to painting product.

What is gallery wrapping?

This is where the image goes around the frame on all 4 sides. The canvas will be stretched and wrapped around the edges. The corners will be carefully folded and tucked in, the canvas on the back of the frame will be covered by tape to give a finished look. Therefore it is important to ensure that the main subject of the image is not too close to the edges to prevent it from going around the sides 1.5" to 2" of space around the main image is enough to apply the wrapping technique.

Alternatively, you can go for a plain edge where the sides have the natural colour of the canvas with your whole image remaining on the front, an example of the gallery wrapping option can be found on our
gallery wrap page

Please note that should you not choose a specific wrapping option our artist will select the best option for you and your photo.

What materials do you use?

We print on 390gsm cotton artist canvas, using pigmented inks which are UV protected fade resistant. The expected life expectancy of canvas prints is at least 75 years, providing they are kept out of extreme conditions.

All images will be stretched around adjustable wooden bars. We offer 2 types of bars either a 18mm or 38mm deep. They have a rounded edge on 1 side to ensure the canvas is kept above the stretcher bar. In addition the bars also allow for wedges to be placed in each corner. On the larger frames, we may include centre bars for added protection.

Can I have the Canvas unframed so I
can choose my own frame?

Yes you can. Price is based on your chosen canvas size and canvas product less 20%.

There is a size I want which is not listed?

Contact us with your requirements, and we will be happy to quote you.

Whats the Cost?

Costs are detailed on our prices page and are shown in GBP, the only other cost is our standard delivery charge of £4.95 for 1 canvas £7.50 for 2 and postage charges are FREE for 3 or more canvas's ordered with the same destination address. Please note you do not have to be a registered PayPal member to make payment and you may use credit or debit cards, PayPal is a secure payment server so buy with confidence, it is not possible to collect your canvas, all canvas's will be posted.

PayPal is a great way of paying for goods and one we have enjoyed for years, but now for the legal bit - Please note that should you have any problems with paypal please get in touch with their excellent customer services people as we can not be held responsible for a problem outside our control/site.

Satisfaction is guaranteed - if you are not completely satisfied on receipt of your painting or canvas print, we will give a full refund on return of that painting, if returned to us both in its original packaging and within 10 days of receipt. Can i have more than one copy of my painting?

Should you require a copy of your original painting you may contact us within four calendar months for a limited edition print at a reduced cost. This is a time limited offer and will be invoiced separately. Just get in contact with us and we will send you a money request for your painting with a discount of 60% of the original cost.

Please note this offer is for 'Photo to Paintings' only and only on sizes larger than 16"x12". The discount applicable is calculated on current prices available on our site and not on the sale price originally purchased.

Mostly, we use Royal Mail's 1st class post and we always obtain a certificate of posting. We also use a number of other courier services for the larger and heavier shipments. As parcels are quite large, someone will need to accept them in person. Should this be a problem at your home address, we recommend providing an alternate address such as works.
To ensure your stretched canvas reaches you in the safest possible way, we will wrap it with kraft paper before multiple wrapping with bubble wrap for extra protection. All stretched images are marked "fragile". Should your print arrive damaged in anyway, please notify us within 24 hours.

Due to the size of the parcels someone may need to be around to accept delivery.
(it is not possible to pick up your canvas, all canvas's will be posted to you)

How long will my order take?

Our normal dispatch time is between 7 and 10 working days for a 'canvas print' from receipt of an approved photo and cleared payment , this may be slightly longer if we are making any adjustments like removal of backgrounds. However, the majority of the time it will be sent a lot quicker. If you require your order urgently please let us know and we will try to be accommodating.

Photo paintings do take longer as you would probably expect, please allow up to 3 weeks for completion, however it is more likely that you will receive your photo to painting in under 14 days. This is another area that makes us stand out from the rest, not only are we cheaper than anyone else, better quality than most but we are faster too!

Should there be unforeseen reasons why our time scale can not be met, you will be advised prior to purchase.

Do I need anything to hang my canvas?

No.

Your canvas will be delivered ready to hang on your walls at no additional charge.  All we recommend is that you hang your canvas away from extreme conditions such as high temperatures and bright lights.

Yes that's no problem, just let us know what you want removed, for example blemishes on the skin, a hair in the wrong place, a camera date. These small details are removed on your request totally free of charge. If you should require larger areas of change in your photo please get in contact as there may be an additional charge between 8 and 11 pounds depending on the amount of work involved, for example - complete background removal.

Please note that art work completed on your original image in order to complete your order remains the property of CanvasDomain.co.uk, the art work will not be used for any other purpose unless prior written approval has been sought.

You may request a full resolution copy of the completed image (available by download only), the cost of which is 50 pounds sterling. This cost excludes our digital painting service which costs 90 pounds sterling.  These costs are charged separately or alternatively to your canvas print order.

Should you wish only the completed image file, you may purchase that image from us at the prices quoted above. Should you return to us to have your image produced on canvas at a later date, that canvas will be charged at the current prices as defined on our price page and relative to its product origin ie. a photo to canvas or photo to painting product.

How do i care for my canvas print / photo painting?

To maintain & increase the lifespan of your canvas, do not expose to continuous, strong sunlight or moisture. Do not clean with a wet/damp cloth; a light vacuum with the brush attachment will get rid of any dust on the surface.

What is a copy proof?

A copy proof takes the form of an image that will be sent to you for approval prior to your canvas being made. You will be sent this by email or by a link where you can download the image file. You should then inform us (quoting any references given) that you formally approve the image and wish to proceed with the transaction. Should you in the unlikely event not wish to proceed to a full production we will refund you 30% of your initial payment excluding any non-refundable deposit paid.

Should it be your wish not to proceed your painting/canvas will be kept for you for up to 14 days. Should you return to CanvasDomain.co.uk and wish the painting to go to its final stage within that time period, all you have to do is pay the remainder of your balance. After the 14 days has passed your painting will still be available to you although your original deposit will no longer be valid and full payment will be required before delivery.

Please note that different monitors and TFT screens will have different colour settings and therefore your copy proof may differ slightly to the produced canvas.

Unfortunately this does pose a problem as we are in constant contact with out clients by email, should you not have access to email on a daily basis, it is regrettable, but we would have to decline your order with us.

What is the difference between this and your sister company?

Our sister company has one fundamental and extremely important difference to CanvasDomain.co.uk, that difference is that here we DO use photo shop and the paintings are 90 percent computer generated where as at fyneart.com the paintings are done completely by an artists hands and are NOT computer generated.  This company was set-up purely because of the customer demand for good quality paintings at real prices that can be afforded by any budget.  We agree that art should not cost the earth, it should be affordable and available to all.

Unfortunately it is not possible to visit us, CanvasDomain is a business run from the family home, but do not worry, all questions are answered by email or phone and to date there has not been one single complaint, in fact we have been highly praised for the level of contact and content we provide.
